Ice kit list



Equipment

  • Mountaineering boots (B2 or B3)

  • Sharp crampons (make sure they are compatible and fit your boots, mono points are best for mixed climbing)

  • Two technical axes and leashes (sharp picks make a huge difference on ice)

  • Harness (I can provide if you don't have your own)

  • Helmet (I can provide if you don't have your own)

  • Sling, belay plate & two locking carabiners. (I can provide if you don't have your own)

  • Walking poles - must collapse down fully to fit inside your bag (optional)


Approach kit

All this kit can be rented, or if you don't ski then snow shoes can also be hired

  • Light weight touring skis

  • Light weight touring boots

  • Skins

  • Couteaux (ski crampons)

  • Transceiver & spare batteries (I can provide if you don't have your own)

  • Shovel (I can provide if you don't have your own)

  • Probe (I can provide if you don't have your own)


Clothes

  • Waterproof top & bottoms

  • Leggings/mountaineering trousers

  • Base layers

  • Fleece/mid layers

  • Spare warm layer - large down jacket

  • Windproof

  • Gators (optional)

  • Thick & thin gloves & mitts

  • Hat & buff


Accessories

  • Good quality sunglasses (cat 4)

  • Sun cream

  • Head torch

  • Water bottle 1L

  • Warm 4 season sleeping bag, down is best

  • Personal medication & blister plasters

  • Travel & rescue insurance (BMC/Austrian Alpine Club)

  • Mountaineering club/council membership card for discount in huts

  • Lift pass if required
