The Black Cuillin on Skye are some of the most rugged and impressive mountains in the British Isles. The In Pin is the crux for those wishing to complete the Munros and a traverse of the full ridge is one of the most highly regarded prizes in British mountaineering. Previous scrambling experience, good route finding and map work skills are essential. These are Scotlands answer to the Alps and they should be treated as such.
Skye represents a big barrier for many people trying to complete the Munros. Only 3 of the peaks can be ascended by walking (Brauch Na Frithe, Banachdich and Bla Bheinn) and the rest all require some degree of scrambling or even climbing ability. Skye is known as the misty isle and when the mist comes down, as it often does, then route finding, even on the easier peaks, can become very problematic with many false paths and consequential drops. If you would like some help with your Munro bagging on Skye then we offer a discounted 5 day course ,with 4 day of guiding and 1 day for rest and to allow for bad weather. We will aim to tick off all 11 of the Munros on the main ridge. This is in a maximum instructor to client ratio of 1:3.
The finest mountaineering achievement in Britain is a traverse of the Cuillin ridge. This is arranged in a 3 day minimum booking, but the longer the booking the more preparation we can do and the greater the chance of a clear weather window. The ridge is attempted on the best two weather days and the remaining days are spent preparing and enjoying the other delights of Skye's hills. A traverse can be done with no more than 2 clients at a time. This is because of the large amount of complex terrain that needs to be covered at a fast pace. A traverse is aimed at experienced mountaineers, this should not be your first route in the Cuillin. Ideally you will have joined us for a few days out previously to get your ability up to the level required.
There are many great hostels and B&B's to stay at on Skye, if you are having difficulties planning your trip feel free to ask for recommendations.
